Another rainy day for Delhiites

NEW DELHI: Rains continued to lash the national capital for the second consecutive day on Friday, resulting in serpentine traffic jams and water-logging across the city.

The Met office said the city received 110 mm of rainfall between 8:30 am on Thursday to 8:30 am on Friday.

"The city will receive more showers later in the day," said a Met official.

Heavy traffic snarls were reported from various areas including ITO, Ashram Chowk, Mathura Road, Badarpur, Nizamuddin, Green Park, Laxmi Nagar etc.

Traffic also moved at snail's pace on Badarpur Border, Vikas Marg, Connaught Place, South Extension, Dhaula Kuan, Karol Bagh, Moti Bagh and Mehrauli.

Commuters were seen taking shelter below flyovers and bus stops across the city. Many scooterists parked their two-wheelers below bridges, resulting in shrinking of road space for vehicular movement. Traffic movement was also hit due to breakdown of vehicles on the roads.

The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) said it received 106 complaints of water-logging due to rain, 23 complaints of falling of trees and 11 complaints of falling of building portions from various parts of the city.

Several incidents of building collapse were reported during the incessant rains on Thursday, in which at least eight persons were injured in Sangam Vihar, Govindpuri, Bhalswa Dairy and Karol Bagh localities.

The minimum temperature was recorded at 26 degrees Celsius while the maximum is likely to hover around 29 degrees, the Met office said.
